Company History

In 1897 the “Ishida Johei Factory” was established. Our first straw braid factory in Kasaoka city, Okayama Prefecture, made farmer’s straw hats until the early 1950’s.
Our second factory called “Ishida Wataru Factory”, was opened in 1960.
In 1980 the shop known as “Ishidaseibousho” was opened by Yoshiteru Ishida, the third generation of the family to enter the business, and started to make hats for fashion.
In 1992 the business was incorporated as the ISHIDASEIBOU Co. Ltd. All four 4th generation siblings joined the family business and in 1996 they started to make natural designs of hats using natural materials.
In 2000, the company established the brand called ”DAY STRAWS”.
In 2003, the company attended “Concours International de Chapeau”, the hat festival in Caussade, France and won second prize for straw hats(Concours de la Paille Cousue).
In 2005 the company started to make men’s hats and attended the Japan fair in Seattle, America.
In 2009 the company started a prestige brand known as “M. Ishida”.
In 2017, our company displayed their hats in “NY NOW”, an exhibition in America.
In 2017, the fourth head, Katsushi Shigemi (Ishida), took the position of company president.
